MIKE’S PHOTOGRAPHY
Mike Mockler is an award-winning wildlife photographer with many published photographs to his name. His images have been used in numerous books and magazines around the world, including front covers. He is a former category winner in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, the largest and most prestigious of its kind in the world, and has also received highly commended awards in that competition.
Mike’s great passion is Africa and, after more than a hundred safaris, he has an extensive collection of photographs of African mammals, birds and landscapes. However, he has photographed wildlife in many other parts of the world including Antarctica, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Ecuador, the Falkland Islands, Finland, Florida, the Galapagos Islands, Japan, India, Norway, Spain, Spitsbergen and South Georgia. In addition, Mike has a large stock of photographs of British wildlife, covering not only more familiar species and garden birds, but also a range of scarcer mammals and birds.
The purpose of the Photographic Gallery is three-fold. Firstly, it illustrates the number and variety of subjects from around the world that Mike has available to photo researchers and picture editors. Secondly, it indicates the wealth of wildlife which may be seen, and often photographed, on Mike’s escorted wildlife tours and safaris (see the Wildlife Tours page). And, thirdly, it showcases some of Mike’s most successful wildlife images.
Inevitably, to achieve these three objectives, a degree of compromise is sometimes required and, consequently, some photographs in the Photographic Gallery may not match the quality of the very best. In addition, as some of these were taken in the pre-digital era and have been scanned from the original 35mm transparencies, they may reveal slightly different characteristics as a result of the scanning process.
The Photographic Gallery represents only a small proportion of Mike’s stock of wildlife photographs. Furthermore, although known primarily as a wildlife and bird photographer, Mike has also explored other fields of photography, including landscape, travel and sport.
